The major seminary of Bruges possesses an extensive and specialized library, consisting of over 250.000 books and 180 current periodicals.
Students, all who pursue a (clerical) education, masters, scientific researchers, persons interested in philosophical, ideological or religious themes will find either popularized works or professional literature in the following domains: philosophy; bible and theology; Christian belief and spirituality; religious jurisprudence; pastoral theology; religious studies and the other ideologies; (Church) history.
The library possesses an extensive and valuable historical collection: incunables, postincunables, old prints.
The library is accessible by appointment with the librarian, Mondays to Thursdays during office hours (9-12 AM and 1-4 PM). Closed on legal holidays, between Christmas and New Year's and from July 15th to August 15th.
The collection can be consulted online at http://opac.libis.be/F (select 'Groot Seminarie Brugge' under 'limit the search to'). This expanding electronic catalogue consists of works published before 1900, all periodicals and incunables, and a growing amount of old prints.
Works published before 1900 can - for the present - only be found by card index in the reading room of the library.
